The Killers’ finale to Lollapalooza, and in all honesty the best (and probably most expensive) set of the weekend.

Passion Pit and Chairlift at the Apple Store (Chicago)

Well, finally off vacation from Chicago.  Lollapalooza was amazing, and the Passion Pit/Chairlift from the Apple Store on Michigan Ave. was an excellent pre-game.  Chairlift started off with a fantastic set that included the popular song “Bruises” and a great cover of Snoop Dogg’s “Sensual Seduction”.  Passion Pit followed with a 6 song set that shows why Manners is our number one album on “The List”.  Below is a video of “Sleepyhead” by Passion Pit…a Chairlift video will be up in the next 24 hours.  Enjoy!

Passion Pit: MySpace Transmissions

An excellent couple songs with an interview from the Boston-based, Passion Pit.  I posted all videos in their own windows for your convenience.  They’re going to be here next Friday at Triple Rock.  We won’t be making that, but will see them Thursday and Sunday in Chicago.  Enjoy!

The Dead Weather w/ The Screaming Females at First Ave. 7/27/09

DSC00245As most of you have already heard, the Dead Weather were at First Ave. on Monday…3 days later, I still can’t get the show out of my head.  I will admit that I have never believed that these “supergroups” ever live up to their full potential, but instead sell a billion tickets/records strictly from name-dropping.  Monday night proved me wrong, at least about the Dead Weather.  I was a fan of only about 4 songs off of the album Horehound, but hearing most of it live has brought me to take another listen.  While I still don’t think the album is anything extraordinary, their live show is something to be reckoned with.  Definitely in the top 3 “shows of the year”, they put on an absolutely stunning performance, amidst heavy lights and strobes.  The energy that Alison Mosshart brought when the Kills came to town, was multiplied by 10…her stage presence has amazed me every time I’ve seen her.  I’m not going to speak of Jack White because everyone knows who he is, what he’s done, and that he’s the centerpiece of this group.  Watch the video if you’d like to see him up close.  Great show, sorry for the delay in review.

DSC00144The Screaming Females were by far the biggest surprise of the night.  The music was good, until Marissa Paternoster (vocals, guitar) started in on some heavier stuff…then it got great.  Not trying to sound like Dee Snyder here, but she can honestly “shred” like no other woman I’ve ever seen.  Standing, I’d say, not much more than 5 foot, she went from insane guitar solo to heavy riff, right into another great solo.  Not the biggest fan of the screaming aspect of the vocals (yes, I know that would defeat the name), but her voice when singing normal was fantastic.  Almost like Grace Slick meets Nancy Wilson, in a very short package.  Great band, definitely worth checking out and if they come around on their own in the next year, they’re worth seeing live.
