The Alarmists w/ the 757’s, The Championship, Coach Said Not To! at the Varsity 6/12/09

June 13, 2009

SN851946The Alarmists were obviously headlining “The Alarmists CD Release Party” at the Varsity last night.  With an almost full floor, the fan following this band has had over the years is incredible.  As noted in the Local Bands section, The Alarmists have been a fixture in the Minnesota music scene for years, and after the recently released, The Overhead Left, will be for many more.  I’m a big fan of the new album and Eric was nice enough to give us a copy to eventually review.  If you haven’t seen these guys live, you have to.  Look in the Calendar section in future weeks/months for an update on the next show.  Hopefully we will have an interview soon too.

SN851853The third band of the night was the 757’s.  These guys are the true love of the Star Tribune and have gotten press from City Pages and the Current.  Putting on an extremely fun set, their crowd interaction and stage presence is great.  Playing at SXSW in 2009 was most likely the highlight of their careers, thus far, and the performance was praised by the Star Tribune as a top 4 act of the festival.  If you want to catch these guys live, they’ll be playing the Taste of Minnesota.

SN851841The Championship were the first act that we saw.  Now, this website (as you can tell) have not “gone country,” but we must give credit where credit is due.  These guys are a great talent, and deserve some attention if you have even a smidgen of interest in this style of music.  The Championship is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a suited place for great country/folk acts.  Last night was your last chance for a while to see these guys, as they have a full list of shows in Wisconsin this summer, but check out their MySpace.

We unfortunately missed Coach Said Not To!, but will try to cover a show in the near future.
